Well we're packed (I think) and we're all ready to go to Sydnee.
This fellow won't be going though. we will have a team of highly trained cat feeders on hand especially for him and sidekick Tabitha
We look like getting to the airport super early because we are to skinflinty to get a Taxi and are having to fit our friend's work schedule. Nevertheless it will be good cos we can sit in the bookshop for ages.
Paul's picking us up from Kingsford Smith airport so we should be in the depths of The Hills district by teatime. WHooopee!!
during the next 8 days I guess we'll do a lot of walking around in addition to the required retail therapy, so I guess Penny is really pleased with how this is progressing
after her operation. Looking goood!!
Needless to say you will be able to watch this space for our goings on during our stay. Unlike our last sojourn to Australia we'll not forget to take the camera!
till then, Rich and Pen wish you all well.

Birthday Boy Belated
Ok I know it's a bit late to go on about a birthday that was on the 5th. nevertheless better late than never.
I had a great time as usual! no matter what we get up to there is always something about how my birthday turns out that is brilliant.
Anyway for the weekend we went to Matarangi. the weather started well but petered out somewhat over the days we were there to the extent that I only used the barbie for Friday evening's fry up. Not only that, but the rain seemed to appear when we had our eyes seton a longish walk. No silly swimming you note. anyway because of that I had a great time reading my birthday books, well looked at 3, started 2 and read one which was Trafalgar, from Nicola. Great! turned out to be like a thriller novel, had to have a lie down at the end of it!
Note the knee!!
What with that, enforced laziness and superb nosh and wine provided by Penny and smart beer provided by someone who left it in the fridge while we were in the UK, I couldnt have done any better. What no runs along the beach you say, well tendonitis put paid to that, just had a saunter along the beachfront with Penny who was recovering from her knee operation that went really well. I forgot to take the camera along so I can't show you the loss of sandhill from the shoreline that occurred while we were in the UK. There are sort of regularly spaced pathways down to the beach and just about every one had lost the slope onto the beach. The council workers have been doing work big time in replacing the washed away walkways with steps! The only downside now is that we cant wheel the kayaks down to the beach but have to negotiate steps at the end.
All too soon it was time to return to the big A ( I can say that now, as the letter A is officially the Auckland Logo, well a sort of big frayed orange A). Now the rain has largely stopped and while it hasn't been replaced by tropical heat, it's nice out and I usually have lunch and teabreaks (teabreaks, did I say that? breaks from what?) outside. Now I remember , breaks from looking at the garden and visualising what I should be doing next. Penny is not so fortunate as she is the teaching breadwinner. I had to cruise down to Manukau when we got back to hire an excecycle so she can un-stiffen her knee joint. Usually she puts in her 30 mins cycling in the sunroom while I pretend to push weights on the weightbench. lots of fun. Actually this is the first birthday for absolutely years that I didn't play squash. Not surprising as doing that has put me in this position with the achilles tendon. Mind you it's in it's last stages now just in time for the nice weather.
I notice that everyone else's blogs are now quiet but I look forward to hearing more Ella, Devon and lizard exploits from sunny Oz, more wonderful kiddie catastrophies from the heart of the Empire and more from Jem too while she's there.
Anyway I'm now off to join Pen inthe spa before bedtime. So love to everyone reading this. Look forward to the next instalment from Lawty Towers
